Inclusifves

The aim of the Inclusifve collection of short stories and poems was to bring together texts written in non-binary languages. My text, Huit fois plus, tells the story of Rose, who goes to an event in honour of their friend Lock, attended by activists and Lock’s family. They analyse the people there and reminisce about times gone by.

In writing this text, I wanted to show that French non-binary language is a laboratory of initiatives. That’s why I chose two non-binary characters who don’t use the same pronouns. On the one hand, Rose uses the pronoun “iel” and uses non-binary endings along the lines of inclusive writing with the midpoint. On the other, Lock uses the pronoun “ael” and neologising endings such as “æ” (instead of “é-e”).

It was important for me to be able to use a post-binary typography (Baskervool) with ligatures in order to draw readers’ attention to these graphic experiments.
